Introduction
Today 3DXtreme has the pleasure of reviewing the Bytecc 3.5” Aluminum External Enclosure. Bytecc has been producing some of the finest External Aluminum Enclosures for some time now. Previously we reviewed the ME-350 and have been using it to transfer files from test system to test system. Performance and operation have been flawless for the year we’ve been using it.

Let’s see how the newest addition to the Bytecc product line fares.

The kit includes a manual, drivers, screws, the External Enclosure and the cables needed for a quick installation.

Let’s take a quick look at the features of the ME-740.

Features
Fitting for 3.5" HDD
Works with both PC and Mac
Plug and Play, Hot-swappable connection
Support up to 300GB "IDE" HDD
Dimension (L x W x H) : 198 x 125 x 33mm
With 30Watt External Power Supply

A Closer Look
The installation of the drive into the ME-740 is simple. Slip the mounting bracket out of the enclosure.

Use 4 screws to mount the drive to the mounting bracket from the side.

Just connect the IDE cable to the connection on the back of the IDE drive being installed. Connect the Power and LED connection and that’s the extent of the connections that need to be made.

Slide the unit back in, there is one screw on either side of the unit.

Once the power is applied the ME-740 comes to life with the bright blue LED on the front flashing to indicate drive activity.

Once we powered on the Windows XP computer, XP installed and recognized it without installing any 3rd party software or drivers.
