Introduction:
Today 3DXtreme has the pleasure of reviewing the ATI Radeon 9800XT Video Card. ATI has become a leader in the graphics card industry and has furthered this claim by making some slight changes to the 9800 Pro, the 9800XT is the flagship of the ATI product line currently. Featuring 256 MB of memory and a new cooling system the only similarity to the 9800 Pro is the red PCB.
Included with the retail packaged 9800XT card is the voucher for the upcoming game Half Life 2. Also included are all the needed wires and connectors for the 9800XT.
Specifications:
The 9800XT features a Core Clock speed of 412 MHz, up from the 380 MHz of the 9800 Pro and a Memory Clock speed of 730 MHz vs. the 680 MHz of the 9800 Pro. This increases the theoretical bandwidth of the 9800XT to 23GB/Sec. Still being utilized is the 256-Bit Memory Interface that propelled the 9800 Pro past the NVIDIA offering at the time. The 9800XT is built on a .15 Micron and the heatsink fan adjusts speeds as needed. When gaming the 9800XT fan can kick in keeping the card as cool as possible. Also integrated in the newer Catalyst drivers is thermal monitoring and auto over clocking feature called Overdrive. We’ve seen idle temperatures with this card at 65 Degrees C and after gaming have seen a high of 75 Degrees C.
