Aerocool HorsePower 1020 Watt Power Supply Unit
Author: Dean Nottis
Date: March 27, 2008
Supplied By: Aerocool
Price: $260 USD

Introduction
Today 3DXtreme is taking at look at a new Power Supply from our friends at Aerocool, the HorsePower 1020 Watt. I’ve seen some surprising numbers lately from high end machines. Overclocked Quad core CPUs can draw upwards of 300 watts when loaded. High end GPUs can draw even more, especially when dual cards are being used. So when is the Power Supply wattage war going to end? There are 1200 watt Power Supplies on the market, who would’ve thought a few years ago we would be using Power Supplies able to produce triple the output wattage we were using back then? Not I.

The Aerocool 1020 watt is just the latest offering in the 1000+ watt war. Featuring quad 12v rails, a 14CM fan, Active PFC and an 80+ efficiency rating the HorsePower comes in at a surprisingly low cost. The HorsePower runs about $260 however compared to some of the other Power Supplies with similar specs they can run upwards of $300. Unfortunately, I don’t have the equipment some of the other websites do for testing Power Supplies. Our approach is more real world. We put it in an actual computer and load the hell out of it. Real world to what most computer users will be doing to it. I’ve never had a Power Supply in my case that had alligator clips hanging out of it, sorry folks.

Our sample came in the retail box.
