Introduction
Everyone knows that a high quality LCD is a hot commodity. Whether you are a gamer or an Ebay web surfer there are a few things that everyone looks for in any monitor. Since LCDs have become more popular there is an awareness of some key items to look for when shopping for a new LCD monitor. First and foremost is the Response Time. The Response Time on an LCD monitor is defined as the amount of time it takes for a liquid crystal cell to go from active (black) to inactive (white) and back to active (black) again. This is measured in milliseconds and lower the number the faster the transitions are and therefore less visible image artifacts or ghosting. Gamers usually look for an LCD that has a Response Time under 12ms. Another item to mention when shopping for an LCD monitor is the Contrast Ratio (the ratio of the light intensity of the brightest possible color to the darkest possible color a display is capable of displaying simultaneously - with higher being better).

Without getting too much more into the technical information, we like to focus our reviews from a consumers' standpoint. Most typical consumers would shop based on the Response Time and the Contrast Ratio so with that we set out to find a reasonably priced LCD monitor that would fit applications of all needs. I was looking for a contrast ratio of 600:1 or higher, 8ms response time and an LCD that had both VGA and DVI connections. We came across this Acer 17" LCD that fullfilled the basic needs we were shopping for and had the Acer 17" LCD (AL1716BBD) delivered from our friends at Directron.com.

As usual Directron.com came through delivering this monitor in a few days safely and securely. This was the inner packaging, it was shipped in a larger box filled with shipping peanuts. No damage was done to the box or it's contents. We should mention at the time this monitor was delivered the selling price was $212. Currently Directron has this monitor on sale for $199.
